Work makes freedom

Updated: 7 minutes ago

I have been listening to Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker. His chief saying is there is no free lunch.

I agree. Given the complexities of this world, no one will succeed in life without putting something in. When I was reporting in Sidney, Montana, even the developmentally disabled were working separating recycled trash from regular trash for a little bit of income.

Zig says you will get anything in this life if you help others get what they want. Work gives people goals to achieve. More importantly, work gives people pride in themselves.

My disability could have been used as a crutch to not succeed. There is a public stigma against the disabled that if believed in leads to self-stigma resulting in low self-esteem. If taken to its limit, people die from this stigma through languishing or suicide.

Everyone has a right to work. Anyone can succeed if they believe in themselves.
